Taylor has continued her art and design work as a professional in Southern California. Tucker, who had one of his pieces showcased at the NCAA headquarters, later went on to pursue an MFA at Laguna College of Art and Design. Subsequently, Mike Henderson, a professor with the university's art studio department, inspired Tucker with the idea of an art show at a local gallery. The genesis of the Art of Athletes exhibit dates back to the late spring of 2009, when several pieces of art were on display at the third-annual Aggie Idol, a charity talent show run by the UC Davis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Previous coordinators were Tucker (2009, 2011), cross country runner Kristina Taylor (2012), field hockey player Amanda Marinac (2013), swimmer Devon Demont (2014), field hockey players Sophia Lisaius (2015), Nica Taglieri (2016-19) and Chelsea Bigelow (2019). Buelher Alumni Center hosted the event for the first time in 2016 before it crossed the street to the Shrem Museum in 2020. Subsequent editions took place in the on-campus Basement Gallery the Walter A. Originated by football players Brandon Tucker and Bakari Grant, the inaugural Art of Athletes event took place at the Log Cabin Gallery in downtown Davis. This year, the museum staff will provide supplies for visitors to create their own pieces of art during the event. Parking for this year's reception is available at the Mondavi Center Garage, located next to the Manetti Shrem Museum. The 29 student-athletes participating in this year's event is the largest in the exhibit's history this group is responsible for 46 unique pieces of art and performances.
